Southern Yukon

The Yukon south is an area of diversity. Mountains, glaciers, hot springs and enormous lakes set the scene for gold rush towns and Alaska Highway settlements. Expect the exceptional.

Kluane Park
Majestic icefields carved into some of the world's most spectacular - and accessible - landscapes.

Kluane Park

Over 2,000 glaciers make up the frozen heart of Kluane National Park Reserve. Kluane contains the world's largest non-polar icefield. Piercing this mile-thick icesheet are the St. Elias Mountains, Canada's Himalayas. The highest peak, Mount Logan, towers to 5,959 metres (19,550 ft), and there are more than 20 peaks higher than 4,200 metres (14,000 ft) and another 20 higher than 3,600 metres (12,000 ft) - giving Kluane the densest concentration of great peaks on the continent.

Carcross
A living, breathing film set with full amenities and a desert right next door to boot.

Carcross

The picturesque community of Carcross is located on Bennett Lake. In the words of director Atom Egoyan, "the whole town of Carcross looks like a set." Old gold rush buildings, dilapidated docks, a White Pass & Yukon Route train station and weathered log buildings decorate the scene. You don't have to go far to find variety and beauty. Just around Whitehorse, there are some beautiful locations. Annie Lake in the Wheaton River Valley, Fish Lake, Lake Laberge and Miles Canyon have varied water and mountainscapes.

White Pass
Whithin 2 hours driving distance from Whitehorse this location recieves 30 to 50 feet of snow every year.

White Pass

If it's snow you need, you'll find it at the White Pass and Haines Road (where White Fang was shot). The aptly named White Pass, south of Whitehorse, receives between 30 and 50 feet of snow a year. Both passes have snow from October to May, and in some years, even earlier and later. This in conjunction with beautiful and varied scenery: ragged mountains, gracious hills, alpine tundra, waterfalls, cliffs and canyons.

The Fraser Highways Camp is a convenient haven for film companies working at the summit of the White Pass. The narrow gauge White Pass & Yukon Route Railway travels along the White Pass to the gold rush station of Bennett on Bennett Lake, passing by blue-green glaciers and rushing whitewater rivers.
