Western Canadian Music Industry Associations
Western Canadian Music Alliance (WCMA) stages an event in Western Canada that unites, promotes, develops and educates independent labels, artists and managers. The Western Canadian Music Alliance further stimulates the public's interest in and awareness of the live, original and independent music from Canada's Western Provinces including industry organizations from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and Yukon:
Canadian Agencies
FACTOR (The Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent on Recordings) is dedicated to providing assistance toward the growth and development of the Canadian independent recording industry. The foundation administers contributions from sponsoring radio broadcasters as well as two components of the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Canada Music Fund to support the Canadian music industry. FACTOR has been managing federal funds since the inception of the Sound Recording Development Program in 1986 (now known as the Canada Music Fund Council).
MUSICACTION (Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings) If you are a French language recording business, songwriter, composer or artist, you may be eligible for a loan to help pay for:
- recordings and production
- artistic development
- marketing and promotion
- domestic and international business development
The Canada Council for the Arts provides support for the development of individuals, groups, small ensembles, orchestras and other professionals working in the Canadian music community. In addition to tours, concert production, sound recordings and festival programming, the Music Section funds a variety of related activities such as residencies and the commissioning of Canadian compositions.
SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors, and Music Publishers of Canada) is the Canadian copyright collective that administers the performing rights of more than 90,000 composers, authors and music publishers by licensing the use of their music in Canada.
